Wallace McDowall Ltd Final Report
MMPV Rail Utility Vehicle
We have now completed the handover of the rail utility vehicle (MMPV) to the customer and they are currently running trials on load ratings, brake & engine testing as well as various other tests. We are still in regular contact with them and have also been asked to design and provide additional items to supplement & support the day to day use of the vehicle.
The project allowed us to purchase and utilise an additional feature of our design software which can run stress analysis on the individual components and sub-assemblies used on the vehicle to ensure that the design was fit for purpose. We have used this to help with the additional requirements that we have been asked for, with an increased knowledge of various important factors e.g. what loadings and stresses the components may be under when in use.
We have also built on and embedded our welding knowledge and experience during the welding of structural parts used on the project, this contributed to us going forward and achieving CE marking to BS EN 1090 execution class 2.
Our customer is now in discussion with various rail network customers with possible use and supply of the vehicle and future machines. The feedback has been very positive and our client has been in discussions with ourselves about the possibility of a further five machines over the next three years.
The project has increased Wallace McDowall’s exposure and profile within the rail community which has seen us receive an increase in both enquiries and orders. Three new companies have now been added to our customer base.
The client has recently featured in a news article within a rail industry publication.
